Product Profile | The Wonderful World of Tonic Syrups
Posted: Aug 09 2014
The wonderful world of Tonic Syrup was introduced to us at the beginning of the year by the flamboyant and ever trendy Mr Mark ReGINato. For us this was a game changer. An amazing twist on the summer classic.
Tonic syrup is made from cinchona bark where the quinine alkaline is extracted. This is added to an acid base and a syrup to sweeten it. From there all sorts of spices, fruits, and herbs are added. Due to the bark used the tonic syrup is left with a reddish hue, it is then added to soda water to carbonate it and dilute the intensity.
We think the addition of these syrups make the best gin and tonics on the planet. They are also excellent in cocktails if you want to get a little more creative, or for the non drinkers out there a fantastic alternative to a lemon, lime and bitters.
The dilution ratio for the tonic syrups are approximately 1 part syrup to 6 parts soda, but is dependant on how intense you like it. As they are a natural product please refrigerate after opening and shake well before use.
